Who we are?

Posted by leepeng on August 29, 2010

I just ponder about this question. Forecepts, beside been your web design / development vendor; who else we are?
I came out with some quick answer by my daily observations:

We are:
1.) Web Technology Chaser
We keep our eyes on the latest technologies to solve problems or improve our solutions

2.) Your 2nd Brain
We found out that many time we actually involved in brainstorming business ideas, business solutions, operational and management workflows, accounting procedures before we really got into the actual IT solutions for our clients.

3.) Artist
I must say we have great design team with great ideas. So please please appreciate our creativity and listen to our presentation before you come to the conclusion to use back a pre-conceptual design idea that plug from various websites and trying to assemble them together. We want to be your creative artist, not your drawing machine.

4.) User
We are web user. And we develop products for web user.

5.) Your friend
We listen to you when you complaint about your boss and colleagues
We come to your office so that you can have a reason to call for a internal team meeting
We help you organise and priotise your tasks
We crack jokes with you or listen to your joke of the day
We always wait for the great meal that you want to buy for us… the next time we meet

The Truth of Software Engineering

Posted by leepeng on August 25, 2010

Received this picture couple of months ago. Suppose to be something for us to feel funny and laugh at.

However, the similar picture was actually printed on my university software engineering text book.

It makes me ponder on communications.

A solution can only considered good if it meet client’s objective and solve their problem. In order to do this, understanding and passing of correct information is very important.

In industry practice, we have tools like functional specs, flow charts, screen prototypes and different kind of diagrams.
So do we come out with these documents just to fulfill the software engineering lifecycle or because we quoted documentation or just for the sake of coming out some documents so that both client and us feels good?

I felt documents is useless if it is not a tool for communication. When we draft a functional specs, we have to think in clients’ perspective to come out with something that they can understand so that we can discuss and confirm various business concepts and requirements using the document. At the same time, if we need client to visualise, we have to come out with screens so that we can discuss further or to trigger more views from them so we can have deeper understanding of their needs.

We are learning and doing our best to improve our communications so that we can have more happy customers.

Forecepts’ 2009 Christmas eCard

Posted by jessette on March 19, 2010

Last year, our design team have been blessed with an abundance of Christmas and Season’s Greeting e-cards. We can say that 2009 has been a real blast and inspite of the recession, we were able to work on really interesting projects.

Here’s some insights on our own corporate Christmas e-card from last year:

Every Christmas tree has its own unique charm that reflects the characteristic of the people who took the time to lovingly and joyfully decorate these trees. I grew up in the Philippines where Christmas is a big thing and my childhood memories is happily peppered with colourful balls, stockings, Santa Claus, gifts, and of course, Christmas trees.

It’s the sheer enjoyment of decorating this symbolic tree that has inspired me to create this concept for Forecepts’ 2009 Christmas eCard. I have worked on the illustrations for all the elements; the trees, baubles, socks, candy cane and the gifts at the bottom of the box.

We originally planned on a “create your own Christmas Tree” concept, wherein users can customize the background, the tree and the elements that each would want to place on their eCards. A personalized greeting would also be possible and in the end, the user can send the card to their friends as jpeg files. They can also invite their friends to do the same. Unfortunately though, time constraints have not allowed us to push through with this idea.

Below are some screen shots of the design. In the end, we just opted to send out a simple flash eCard. Hopefully this year, we’ll be able to push through with the original concept and share the joy of decorating your own Christmas Tree.

Posted by leepeng on March 12, 2010

Our dear Kee Perng realised that some of his colleague have used too much toilet paper when came out from the toilet. Especially those like to wash their face and wipe their hand using toilet roll.

So he came out with this design (recycled from cake box) and I’m pleased to give him our first invention award.

SJ will give him the prize by treating him dinner tonight :P

The Web Smith

Posted by leepeng on June 14, 2009

Visited one of my mother’s friend; who was one of the last blacksmith in Muar, Malaysia.

This is his small warehouse…

The various “customised” tools made by him.

Blacksmith is consider a “sunset” job in Malaysia as many tools are manufactured now adays.
It is a tedious work which require hardship and experiences.
However customisation is sometime still needed to achieved special task or to best suit the user.

In Forecepts, we have not ventured into the area of manufacturing.

We are the Web Smiths, doing customisation, hearing from our customers so to built a solution that best meet their business and personal usability preferences.

Engineers vs. Management

Picked this one from an old email, is this how our web programmers relate with our sales & account managers? Hahaha, interesting food for thought …

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don’t know where I am.” WAIT! There is more to read… read on »
